Emergency DC Water Work

As you may already be aware, there is a reported water leak near the intersection of 4th Street NW and Marietta Place NW. This evening beginning around 5:30pm, DC Water’s Water Operations team will be conducting a test on some water mains and valves in the area to identify the source of the leak and assess next steps. This testing procedure should not take more than four hours, but could be completed in less time.

During the testing procedure, we will need to shut off water to portions of water mains running on 5th Street NW, between Longfellow Street and Oneida Place, and on Marietta Place NW, between 5th and 4th Streets. Accordingly, a number of customers located along these blocks may be put out of water during the testing procedure.

We do sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and we ask for your patience as we work to complete this evening’s testing procedure as expeditiously as possible.

As a follow-up from last evening’s testing procedure, we have successfully identified the source of the reported water leak! There is a leak on the 8-inch water main on Marietta Place, due to a broken valve. We have scheduled the repair for this morning beginning at 9:30am. The repair will take approximately 8 hours to complete, and there will be water service outage to customers at the following locations during this portion of work:

  • Marietta Place NW, between 4th and 5th Streets
