NEW DC WATER PROJECT IN YOUR AREA

Tuesday, June 7, 2022

Manager, Community Outreach: Emanuel D. Briggs

Greetings DC Water Community Stakeholders:

This message is intended to inform you of a new DC Water construction project that will soon begin in your area. As part of its Capital Improvement Program, DC Water is replacing existing 12-inch and smaller cast iron water mains in various locations throughout the city. Construction for this project will occur in the Manor Park area, and will include the following Scope of Work items:

  • Installation of about 6,091 linear feet of 6-inch up to 12-inch water mains

  • Replacement of service lines –including free private side replacement of lead and galvanized iron pipe

  • Replacement of fire hydrants and valves

  • Restoration of all surfaces disturbed by the project construction upon completion of the work

The project is scheduled to start later this month, and be completed by August 2023. The normal work hours will be from 9:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. However, as construction continues there may be portions of work that result in night and/or weekend activities due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, but every attempt will be made to keep these activities at a minimum. This and other important information may be found on the attached project information sheet.

As part of our regular construction outreach program, this e-mail message and project information sheet are being shared with directly impacted residents in the local area, ANC 4B Commissioners, Ward 4 representatives in the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services, and Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George and members of her key staff. This project information will also be posted to our website at www.dcwater.com and updated regularly. Additionally, we will be hand delivering the attached project information sheet to all property owners whom are directly impacted by the work at least two weeks prior to the start of the project.

Finally, we are available to provide you with a presentation to discuss the project’s short-term construction impacts and long-term benefits, as well as address any concerns you may have. If interested in a presentation at one of your upcoming monthly meetings, please contact our office and we will be happy to accommodate you.

Thanks much for the opportunity to share this important information with you, and please let us know if you have any questions.
